Game with vertex paint only ?


Last few months I was thinking is it possible to make a cheap mobile game only using vertex color. At the same time, is it possible to save the right balance between style and performance? So to find it out me and my friends ( Michael Davidov , Andrew Ivanchenko, Alexander Ovchinnikov ) started our small game project.

After a few turns here is the first test with vertex color in unity.

Technically it's a not a difficult approach with the right style. No textures mean no problem with a batching. Plus game themselves should be very cheap and should take minimum space on the device. We can use all four channels for a different purpose.

For the first tets, I use RGB as diffuse and Alpha channel to simulate the metalness channel.
